Pargad Fort
Pargad is a beautiful fort located on the border of Maharashtra and Goa. The area of the fort is approximately 48 square acres. The fort is surrounded by natural Tashiv ridge on the east, west and north. After a short slope to the south is a deep valley.
In the year 1676, while returning from the expedition against the Portuguese, Shiva Raya recognized the geographical location and importance of the Haya mountain and built this fort to establish a permanent hold over the Portuguese, Adil Shah and Khem Sawant of Sawantwadi. In the presence of Shivaji Maharaj, the fort was inaugurated and the fort entered. At that time, the king ordered Raiba Malusare and his 500 colleagues, 'The moon and the sun, keep the fort awake'. The orders of the kings have been obeyed by the mavalras of this fort till now. It was named "Pargad" as the fort of Par Toka in Swarajya.
